In the early months of 1985, the principals of RW Smith organized a new Municipal Securities Broker’s Broker firm in Seattle, Washington. At the time, the prevailing wisdom on Wall Street was that a competitive broker’s broker company must be headquartered in the New York metropolitan area. Many forecast doom for the young Seattle upstart. However, those were just the odds that Richard Smith, then a twenty-five year veteran of the securities industry, and his staff saw as a challenge they were ready to take on.
Drawing on their comprehensive experience and knowledge, the RW Smith team of professionals made the most of every opportunity. Together they created an aggressive and efficient brokerage firm and established RW Smith as one of the nation’s premier broker's broker.
